OJAI MUSEUM – Ojai Studio Artists Origins Exhibit

This year brings some exciting changes for the Ojai Studio Artists. The annual exhibit at the Ojai Valley Museum will open mid-August and run through the Annual Fall Tour in mid-October.

The theme this year is Origins – allowing a broad interpretation of what that might mean to each artist and giving them a concept they can really sink their teeth into.  The work may address one or several aspects of the theme: ancestry, biology, psychology, one’s journey as an artist or some facet of one’s life or personal mission…How did each artist get to be HERE…?

Mexican-born ceramicist Sandra Torres plans to exhibit her family’s well-loved and much-used metate alongside Sandra’s ceramic creation inspired by that stone vessel years later: a thin-walled porcelain “metate” with Sandra’s signature elegance and artistry.

And like last year’s very popular Scorched Souls exhibit, OSA members will write personal statements to accompany each piece, adding commentary and enriching the show’s relevance for the viewer.

Origins will open Friday, August 16 with an artists’ reception and end on the last day of the tour, Monday, October 14.  The museum will be open all three days of the tour, October 12 – 14, with ticket sales and tour information at the museum as well as various locations around Ojai. The tour’s annual Friday night Artists Preview and Saturday night’s Gala Reception will be held in the museum’s back courtyard, with Origins-relevant art activities for tour-goers enjoyment and participation.
