On Sunday, June 13, in Libbey Park, author and native plant expert Lanny Kaufer will lead another in a series of downtown Ojai herb walks. He’ll visit the Park from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to see useful native plants such as white sage, eucalyptus, toyon, and wild cherry. Libbey Park provides an easy walking, wheelchair-accessible place to see how California’s native plants do in urban and municipal landscapes. Kaufer will focus on how to identify the plants and discuss their edible and medicinal uses. Plaques and signage throughout the Park will serve as talking points for some of the cultural history of Ojai. Kaufer will draw on information to be found in his new book, Medicinal Herbs of California, due out in November from Falcon Guides.
Safeguards will be in place to prevent possible transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Attendance will be limited to 12 participants. Temperatures will be checked on arrival, face coverings will be required, and participants will maintain 6 feet of physical distance at all times.
Registration is required online at HerbWalks.com or by calling 805-646-6281. The event listing can be found at https://herbwalks.com/event/ojai-urban-herb-walk-5/  The cost is $25. No dogs or smoking, please.
