YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US IN bringing a Colorful Embrace of Community Spirit! In the absence of our beloved Ojai Day festival – we have an alternate plan!

We will be painting around the Libbey Park fountain during daylight hours. Mini-mandalas will be connected with decorative elements. We have some simple guidelines for you and we will be freer to express ourselves in the space this year.
No artistic experience or skill is needed, just a desire and willingness to participate. This is an all-ages FREE event.
October 19 – Monday – 10am – 5pm
October 20 – Tuesday – 10am – 5pm
October 21 – Wednesday – 1pm – 5pm
October 22 – Thursday – 1pm – 5pm

This year’s design influences:
Abstract botanical shapes — Alternating/vibrating colors —
Concentric lines around circles and other shapes —Playful —bright—
Repetitive lines and shapes—Improvisational —
We will provide design examples for you

Painters of all levels can show up at any time within our schedule and be guided in painting by Mandala Mavens – River Sauvageau, Evergreen Hericks and Mary Kennedy. There is no need for these painters to sign up.
• Social distancing and mask wearing will be enforced. Painters will keep their own paint cups and brushes, washing themselves, as needed throughout.
• Children must be accompanied by an adult
• All materials are provided.
• You must be assigned a space before beginning to paint. Blank areas are not to be painted. Ask!
• No painting on any areas outside of the design.
• No painting during unscheduled times.
• Wear clothing and shoes that are not precious. Paint is water soluble but will stain. Take care.
• Bring your own sunscreen, hat, water, snacks.
• This is a community project with many tasks; we appreciate when you are willing to help! If you are not painting, please stand well out of the way of the paint table and the design. Observers must socially distance and wear masks.
More skilled/ambitious painters (or groups) should contact us asap with designs (please read on for details below). Please contact us on Facebook at Ojai Day Mandala Artists page or email us at ojaidaymandala@gmail.com

FOR ARTISTS MAKING A DESIGN

• When considering your design, think about the things that make Ojai special for you. A brief description of your design concept and a draft sketch of your design should be submitted to River at ojaidaymandala@gmail.com as soon as possible. Please be open to our suggestions that support the whole design (avoiding repeat elements, etc. Your final drawing should be with you at the event for consultation and approval. )
• No words or brand symbols may be used.
• Your design needs strong graphic elements and to be adaptable to overall design needs. Spaces in general are circular this year. Use strong colors and shapes with minimal blending and shading. This is not the place for a masterwork. This is a community art project with over 100 people contributing.

• Please be willing to work with others (of all ages) who may be assigned to join your group- observing safety protocols.
• The artwork is outlined with chalk and painted over with tempera paint in one layer. Your entire assigned area will be painted; no bare pavement or chalk lines are left unpainted.
• There is no underpainting – one layer of paint only, not heavy. No pouring or drip painting. Help us avoid wet paint and footprints!
