Rope

Ojai Arts Theater is delighted to unveil its upcoming production, “ROPE,” a captivating play by Patrick Hamilton. Directed by the talented Kimberly Demmary and produced by Rosie Gordon, the show promises to enthrall audiences with its suspenseful narrative and intricate moral dilemmas.

Inspired by the infamous 1924, Leopold and Loeb murders, “ROPE” follows the gripping tale of two young university students: Wyndham Brandon, played by Jon Markham, and Charles Granillo, played by Evan Roush. They commit a heinous crime and hide the evidence in plain sight. Their secret is concealed within a chest that becomes the centerpiece of their living room in London. With audacious confidence, the duo hosts a gathering of their victim’s friends and family, with the chest looming ominously in the background, casting a pall over the evening’s festivities.

As the story unfolds, tensions mount and suspicion arises among the guests, particularly through the keen observations of Rupert Cadell, their former school master portrayed by Eric Andersen. As the guests question the contents of the chest, the play delves into the intricate interplay of morality, deception, and the pursuit of justice.
